Welcome to our cortijo…
‘We are moving! Still in Tijola so the same fabulous views! We have bought the farmhouse next door and it is currently being fully renovated ready for the opening in April next year. The original Valle de Lunas is now a private house but we will be taking bookings for the new location in the New Year.
Valle de Lunas is truly a magical collection of four luxury self-catering suites in Tijola, Spain. Originally an old farmhouse which had been lovingly restored, it has now been transformed into a beautiful haven for couples. Nestled in the valley of the Rio Guadalfeo, which runs between the Sierra Nevada and the Sierra Lujar mountain ranges, our cortijo enjoys stunning panoramas of the unspoiled Alpujarras. Valle de Lunas – or Valley of the Moons – is named after the extraordinary night skies you can enjoy here. With little light pollution, one can marvel at the different phases of the moon as it floats across the night sky. These moons inspired the name of our cortijo and the names of our suites – Silver Moon, Henna Moon, Red Moon and Blue Moon.
The location could be hardly more suited to exploring this beautiful part of Spain: thirty minutes’ leisurely drive and you can be at the coast or head north towards Granada and you’ll discover the breath-taking Sierra Nevada mountains. Tijola (home to the writer Chris Stewart who wrote the charming book ‘Driving Over Lemons’ about this village) is four kilometres from the thriving market town of Orgiva, known for its alternative, artistic and eclectic locals. The town offers an array of delightful restaurants, bars, cafes and a bustling market on Thursdays selling wonderful local produce which is mainly organic. There are three fish mongers, several butchers and several bakers….not that you have to worry as our local baker Antonio comes regularly to our door three times a week with a van full of exquisite sweet and savoury delights!
A feeling of relaxed, discreet, barefoot luxury pervades this charming house with pretty gardens and pool. The four suites all have king or super-king sized beds, heavenly bed linen, romantic private terraces and three have log fires for the cooler months.
Although the suites are self-catering, we will be here when you arrive to greet you, show you around Valle de Lunas and to give you your key. We look forward to welcoming you to our little slice of paradise.
